Remembering Messi

I remembered the very first time that our eyes met

When we were deciding if we should take you as our pet

You were one of two ‘brother’ puppies we considered

One was completely black and you were adorably spotted!

I remembered your early days as a mischievous mixed-Jack Daniel

Leaving a recognisable path of destruction in your trail…

I remembered how you loved to bite and chew all slippers in sight

You sure had this most incredible and scary appetite!

I remembered the cage that we originally had couldn’t really contain you

And not surprisingly you eventually outlasted the cage, it’s true!

Yeah, although it looked like the cage succumbed to rust, wear and tear

I have my suspicions your continual chewing of it hastened its process beyond repair!

I remembered your fondness of digging up the soil and sand in our garden ground

Given more time, you would have even tunnelled into our neighbour’s compound!

I remembered your incredible bravery and ferocity in all that you did

Despite your size, when faced with dangers, you never batted an eyelid

I remembered you standing up and trying to protect Rotti from rough, stray dogs outside

As well as all other forms of dangers that you could find on the inside!

I remembered how you protected our home from all sorts of threats

From snakes to cats to snails to cockroaches and even rats!

I remembered your intense battle with the snake in our garden

And your couple more smaller snake kills since then!

I remembered the numerous rats you had killed for our disposal

With some even left by our doorstep, was it for our approval?

I remembered the time you chewed off my car brake cables which was quite scary

Did we not feed you enough or were you just terribly hungry?

I remembered you ‘terrorising’ motorists when you were outside our house

The garbage trucks and postmen seemed to be your biggest grouse!

I remembered how you managed to chew a hole through our wired garden fence

It’s one of your legacies now, definitely beyond amends!

But apart from all the other memories of headaches and stress you’ve caused

I have learnt to look beyond all those things as I smiled and paused

To remember you, Messi as a truly loyal and faithful friend

A wonderful, homely companion right to the end. 😀

Isn’t it funny how we much more we remember of people and pets after they are gone, than when they are still around…

Wonder if it is still OK as long as we continue to remember? Sigh.

Goodbye Messi. You will be sorely missed. :-((

RIP – 16 May 2015

FOOTNOTE: Just wanted to add on that we foundВ this company by the name of Pet Memorial Services, who did a fantastic job in coming over to our house to В take Messi’s body away professionally. I wasВ alsoВ impressed with the range of services they provide – personal cremation, caskets, urns, and even upgraded urns (pendant, key-chain, garden marker, etc.)! For those with pets, I would highly recommend Pet Memorial Services to В assist В you after your В pet has passed on.

10 Event Management Lessons from PSY’s Loh Sang Rejection

When PSY came down to Penang to perform at the highly politicised BN Chinese New Year concert recently, it triggered numerous videos that went viral, including the above video, which highlighted the very poor and inept event management skills of the company that conducted the concert.

Picking myself up from the floor after laughing too hard, it suddenly struck me that apart from the humourous, epic-fail В side of this video, it could also be very beneficial to everyone in the event management industry – as a superb real-life case study of what NOT to do when managing any event!

Without further ado, I proudly present 10 event management lessons you can instantly learn from this video:

1. Prioritize your event agenda: If the main highlight of the entire event was PSY’s concert, it wouldn’t be a sin to discard some items on the agenda…like this Loh Sang activity. After all, having too many items on the agenda would easily dilute the main highlight, on top of eating up too much time and also cause too much discomfort to the people in the sweltering heat. Which brings us to point no 2…

2. Take care of your audience: Personally, I would think the Loh Sang activity would work if it was a CNY Dinner or some makan gathering, where every other table in attendance also had its own set so everyone can lou hei together-gether. In a concert setting, it would seem quite illogical to conduct the activity for just the VVIPs whilst the rakyat watches on under the hot, hot sun!

3. Make sure the size is right: And even if you were somehow forced to conduct the Loh Sang activity, it would be best to ensure that the portion set before the VVIPs is big enough or sufficient. I don’t know about all of you, but the entire segment where the big horde of VVIPs hovering over the small Yee Sang dish seems so, so wrong…

4. Plan the event flow, and stick with it: The video highlighted what the entire mess of the program flow. Should the Yee Sang come out first? Was there going to be any speeches before the ceremony? How were the VVIPs supposed to stand? When were they supposed to start? Should PSY be invited too? It was quite clear that the program flow was certainly not under control…

5. Confirm (and confirm again) the roles of the guest of honor: It seemed quite evident that PSY wasn’t pre-warned or informed of the Loh Sang ceremony. His ‘rejection’ to participate could very easily be avoided if all his roles and responsibilities were spelt out clearly, even before he arrived in Penang.

6. Designate a floor manager to control the workers: You know you have a complete mess on your hands when you see the ministers on stage start to order the workers around. This has got to be well communicated from the start that all the event workers will only take instructions from a designated floor manager for more effective implementation of the event.

7. Filter your event emcee: It was just plain downright comical how the emcee was allowed to wander all over the stage in the middle of the planned Loh Sang ceremony. To top it all off, I don’t know just how long more the VVIPs nor the crowd could stand her high-pitched screaming and meaningless commentaries..

8. Be conscious of prop movements on stage: Watching the Yee Sang table being carried here, there and everywhere is really BAD, andВ EMBARRASSING….

9. Be time conscious: It was already bad enough that PSY refused to join in the Loh Sang ceremony. What was worst was this awkward 5+ minutes of DUH? time when the (already sweating and tired) crowd and the VVIPs stood around and did nothing but clap and hoped that PSY would turn up. An easy cover would be for the emcee to apologetically announce that PSY was still getting ready backstage and quickly proceed with the Loh Sang cermony. Timeliness is always key in any event management.

10.В Advise the VVIPs on stage protocols: In the midst of waiting and waiting for PSY, some of the VVIPs actually started to fiddle with their smartphones, taking pictures of the crowd, possibly tweeting, etc. Personally, I don’t think it was rather appropriate at such a function.

Unspeakable Joy of Christmas!

May we all celebrate this ChristmasВ with unspeakable joy for receiving God’s indescribable gift – Jesus Christ – who offers us prevalent peace and everlasting life!

Joy to the World (Unspeakable Joy) – Chris Tomlin

Joy to the World (Unspeakable Joy) – Chris Tomlin

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and heaven and nature sing

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns
Let all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy

Joy, unspeakable joy
An overflowing well, no tongue can tell
Joy, unspeakable joy
Rises in my soul, never lets me go

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders of His love

Joy, unspeakable joy
An overflowing well, no tongue can tell
Joy, unspeakable joy
Rises in my soul, never lets me go

Celebrating 19 (Again!)

There was an interesting article that was circulating in Man U fan-verse about a song aptly titled 19 by Paul Harcastle that sat on top of the charts at one time in the 80s and is now making a comeback.

Here is an extract from the article I found on Daily Mail:

There’s one number on the mind of Manchester United supporters everywhere at the moment. And they’re not going to let anybody forget it.

When the final whistle was blown at Ewood Park last Saturday, it signalled that United had secured a memorable 19th league title, putting them one clear of their great rivals Liverpool.

And following the memorable success, United supporters have succeeded, partially at least, in a campaign to get the Paul Hardcastle hit 19 riding high in the music charts again.

The song, first released in 1985, spent five weeks at the top of the charts. It highlights the average age of soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war.

And the song re-entered the charts at No 40 last Sunday, following a campaign from United supporters on fans’ forums, and the microblogging site Twitter.

TRIVIA: Hardcastle’sВ famous hit was knocked off the top of the charts in 1985 by The Crowd’s version of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, which has become a terrace anthem of Liverpool over the decades.

And since I’m still in the celebration mood, here is the song and lyrics, 19 by Paul Hardcastle. Enjoy!

19 (Paul Hardcastle)

Perhaps, I should start writing a song titled 20 now…a chance for instant success sometime in May next year? 😀

Love Song

Whenever Valentine’s Day comes along, the mail boxes and email in-boxes will be flooded with tonnes of love letters of partners devoting their love for one another.

Ever wondered if Jesus were to write one of these love letters, what would it look like?

I believe it may actually look (and listen) like this Third Day classic, Love Song, which was written from the perspective of Jesus expressing His love for us all.

Love Song – Third Day

Love Song (Third Day)

I've heard it said that a man would climb a mountain
Just to be with the one he loves
How many times has he broken that promise
It has never been done
Well I never climbed the highest mountain, but I walked the hill of Calvary
Just to be with you I'd do anything
There's no price I would not pay
Just to be with you I'd give everything
Oh I'd give my life away
And I've heard it said that a man would swim the ocean
Just to be with the one he loves
All of those dream are empty motion
It has never been done
Well I've never swam the deepest ocean, but I've walked upon the raging sea
Just to be with you I'd do anything
There's no price I would not pay
Just to be with you I would give everything
I would give my life away
And I know that you don't understand the fullness of my love
How I died upon the cross for your sins
And I know that you don't realize how much that I give you
And I promise I would do it all again
Just to be with you I've done everything
There's no price I did not pay
Just to be with you I gave everything
Yes I gave my life away
I gave my life away
Just to be with you

Limericks for Kenny…

Feeling a little poetic today, and since Kenny Dalgish has recently took over as helm at Liverpool, here are a series of limericks to welcome him…hehehe…:-p
King Kenny came back to town
Trying to turn things around
But he forgot to check the calendar
Where Man U was the next challenger
In the FA Cup’s third round…

Barely two minutes into the game
Webb gave in to Berbatov’s penalty claim
Giggs stepped up calmly
And scored oh so easily
Keeping Kenny feeling quite the same!

Captain Marvel rushed in with two legs flying
Webb rushed in with a red card flashing
No more creativity in midfield
And it’s definitely not Anfield
Kenny’s dream of a first game win simply went crashing!

Man U preferred to defend their lead after that
Liverpool as usual offered no real threat
A match so dull
It was more of a lull
except to see Man U through, and that’s a fact!

O Holy Night..

Thought I’d spread some Christmas cheer this year by sharing В a classic Christmas carol with a modern rock twist by Third Day!

Have a blessed and wonderful Christmas everyone! 😀

O Holy Night (Third Day)

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, Oh night when Christ was born;

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Oh praise His name forever!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

O night divine, Oh night when Christ was born;
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, Oh night when Christ was Born;
O night divine, Oh night, O night divine;
O night divine

Seen the Silliness of the Cebu?

Since my kids started to like and watch Veggie Tales ( a lot!!), I have been somewhat exposed to their brand of refreshing silliness and witty humour too. One of the more popular segment in their videos are the Silly Songs with Larry skit where they will render a totally silly song, most of the time without meaning, just plain silly. Ha.

From the numerous silly songs I have heard so far, one of my personal favourites has got to be The Song of the Cebu – which has a catchy beat to it that you just can’t help but sing or tap along to, ridiculous lyrics and excellent script. Listen out for the ‘Cebu beat’ whenever the word Cebu pops out….seriously funny. 😀

But the question that made me think a bit more (strange for a silly song that made me think…) about this song is like what Archibald Asparagus asks in the video, В “What on earth is a Cebu anyway?!”

Larry’s answer? “It’s kinda like a cow…”

Curious to find out more, I did a quick google and found the following explanation about the Cebu – or Zebu, rather…hmmmmm

According to Wikipedia,
Zebu ( Bos primigenius indicus orВ Bos indicus ), sometimes known asВ humped cattleindicus cattle, orВ brahmin cattle are a type of domesticВ cattle originating inВ South Asia, particularly theВ Indian subcontinent. They are characterised by a fatty hump on their shoulders, drooping ears and a largeВ dewlap. They are highly adapted to high temperatures, and are farmed throughout theВ tropical countries, both as pure zebu and asВ hybrids withВ taurine cattle, the other main type of domestic cattle. Zebu are used as draughtВ oxen, asВ dairy cattle and asbeef cattle, as well as for byproducts such asВ hides andВ dung forВ fuel andВ manure.

Ohhhh….so now we know!!:-D

So, for those of you who have not heard about Veggie Tales or just needed something silly to zest up your life today, I’m pleased to share this hilarious video – The Song of the Cebu!

…and of course, the lyrics for you to sing-along with! Lyrics were extracted from Lyricsmode

And now it’s time for Silly Songs With Larry,

the part of the show where Larry comes out and sings a silly song.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls
Larry the Cucumber presents, in aВ sequential image, stereo-phonic,В multi-media event — The Song Of The Cebu!

Cebu! This is a song about a boy,
a song about a little boy and his cebus,
a song about a little boy and his three cebus!
the little boy who had a sick cebu,
a sad cebu and a mute cebu – and also a hippo

Umm, umm, this is me at the airport,
this is my aunt Ruth,
this is me in a bull fight,
this is me fighting a bull ooooo,
this is me and the bull ahhhh
this is me and the bull and i think that’s the bull’s cousin,
he’s a cebu.

Hold it! You call this a multi-media event?
This is a slide projector and, and a bed sheet!
And what on Earth is a cebu anyway?

it’s kinda like a cow, see?

yes, well very good,
this could be interesting, carry on

Cebu! Sing it with me!
Cebu (cebu)

Boy is riding with cebu (boy with ridingthe cebu),В into town in his canoe (intoВ town in his canoe)

Sick cebu is rowing and sneezing
achu moo moo achu moo moo
achu moo moo ahcu moo moo
achu moo moo
(achu moo moo achu moo moo
achu moo moo ahcu moo moo
achu moo moo achoo moo moo moo moo)

hippo chewing on bamboo (peopleВ chewing on bamboo),В can’t see boy and three cebuВ (can’t see boy and three cebu)

sad cebu is rowing and crying
ba hoo moo moo ba hoo moo moo
ba hoo moo moo ba hoo moo moo moo moo
(ba hoo moo moo ba hoo moo moo
ba hoo moo moo ba hoo moo moo
ba hoo moo moo moo moo)

cebu! (cebu!) cebu! (cebu!)
achu moo moo ba hoo moo moo ba hoo moo moo
ahcu moo moo achoo moo moo boo hoo moo moo cebu!

hippo seen by mute cebu (hippo seen by mute cebu),В tries to tell the other two (tires to tell the other two)

mute cebu is waving and grunting
uhmmm, uhmmm,
uhmmm, uhmmm, uhmmm
(uhmmm, uhmmm, uhmmm,
uhmmm, uhmmm, uhmmm, uhmmm)

Wait! What happens next?В (umm)
Does the hippo see them?
Is the poor mute cebu successful in communicating the eminent dangerВ to the other passengers?
Is the boy injurered?
Why is the sad cebu sad?
Is the canoe wood? Or aluminum?
This is quite dissapointing… I’m going to have to speak to Bob about this.

Oh look a cebu!
wait, thats a water buffalo
no more song about cebu
need another verse or two
audience is standing and leaving
bye bye moo moo bye bye moo
bye bye moo moo moo moo

i want my money back

yeah, that’d be good

When Samsung annnounced this gorgeous piece of technology,
Having heard and seen it, i fell critically ill immediately;
Yielding to a disease so complicated and seen rarely…

Injections, bandages, lotions, apples – none could provide a cure, even temporarily….

Especially for a patient with such a condition,
Simply take one tablet for the rest of your life,
Enjoy it everyday, but don’t forget your wife!
Revolutionize and refresh your lifestyle like never before,
Via Samsung’s Galaxy Tablet, the only reliable cure…
Effective and necessary for this current generation!”

The cure…was it really that simple and plain?
Only through this tablet will I be normal again?

W hat does it contain that makes it so powerful?
I n a day and age where pads and pods seemed to rule?
N eedless to say I ventured to find out more about the tablet,

A nd discovered features that seemed to come from beyond our planet…

Sleek and slim with a 7 inch screen fits snugly virtually anywhere
Android 2.2 OS promises a bright future with plenty of apps to share
Multi-touch, capacitive technology screen and also memory expansions
Swype for fun and fast texting and excellent book reader applications

Navigation with A-GPS, social networking hubs and two cameras for video calling
Great business tools with games on the go, let’s forget it’s an excellent phone too!

Given that my sanity and life is at stake,
And time running in turbo without a break,
Luckily the good people at Samsung Univez,
Announced it as a contest main prize;
X-citedly I knew I had to join it,
Yearning for my chance to win the tablet…

That is why I desperately need to win the Samsung Galaxy Tab soon
